The Only Ones In Heaven?
(A Personal Favorite)
A man arrived at the gates of Heaven.
St. Peter asked, "Religion?"
The man said, "Methodist."
St. Peter looked down his list and said," Go to Room 24, but be very quiet as you pass Room 8."
Another man arrived at the gates of Heaven.
"Religion?"
"Catholic."
"Go to Room 18, but be very quiet as you pass Room 8."
A third man arrived at the gates.
"Religion?"
"Jewish."
"Go to Room 11 but be very quiet as you pass Room 8."
The man said, "I can understand there being different rooms for different faiths, but why must I be quiet when I pass Room 8?"
St. Peter told him, "Well, the Baptists are in Room 8, and they think they're the only ones here."

Funny, sure, but...I kinda resent that. I'm not a baptist, but I'm very close to quite a few and um...well, let's just say group judgements aren't accurate. I just hope you don't really stereotype like that.

For what it's worth, I'm a "Baptist".

hehehe, baptists. i know it's only a joke, but man it rings true since i live in "Bible Belt". attending a Lutheran church, most of my baptists friends have no idea who Luther even was. i was reading a book entitled The Theology of Martin Luther the other day and one of the older ladies in the lunch room said, "i just love how he wanted all races to get along."

I think, when we get to heaven, we'll probably be surprised at who is there, and who is not there.

Martin Luther, the very father of the Protestant Reformation. I have his Commentary on Romans. Great resource.

Good joke & unfortunately it seemed that was what was taught for years. I am "Baptist" & grew up that way but it has just been over the past 15 yrs or so that it seems we have finally got the idea that it isn't religion that will get you in Heaven. Thank the Lord for that!
This kind of past thinking along with numerous other things is what has put a bad taste in many peoples mouths towards baptists. God forgive us for not letting YOU speak Your Truth!

A suggestion: Let's go ahead and let them into heaven, but just make sure their mansions aren't as big.

We Southern Baptists have so much self-sufficient and self-perpetuating organization that we've come to feel we really don't need the rest of the Body of Christ. And that is so sad. The task of glorifying Christ and advancing His kingdom is so big- we have to work together.

According to my understanding of the Biblical definition of a Christian, I do not think Hitler qualifies. Of course, God is the final judge. But clearly a displayed and practical love for other will accompany the life of a true Christian.
See Matthew 25:31-46. Check the Bible Gateway link on my blog if you need a Bible.
