Just One Of The Miracles In My Life

For much of my life I have had the sneaking suspicion that God was, at best, a disinterested spectator.  I think it is because I am by nature a very rational person, seeking explanation, and having a hard time with simple faith.  I've always stated that miracles are possible.  But, more and more, I'm coming to believe in miracles.  I can readily believe in the miracles of the Bible, and I've even been carefully accepting of supernatural encounters in the lives of others.  But as my walk with God is becoming more personal, and my service to God moving beyond a job or a calling and into the very identity of who I am, I am starting to see what has been there all along- miracles in my own life.

My family has been handed to me by God.  What an undeserved blessing.  I think of my wife.  Many people have to work hard at being good and decent and kind.  I'm one of those people.  But not Deb.  She is by her very nature the highest quality of person.  She is kind, gentle, transparent.  I think there is no way that type of person should be connected to me for a lifetime.  But, there she is, by the grace of God.  I look at my kids; three teenagers.  Of course they are evolving in many facets of life, but they all have this same gentle and quiet spirit.  And little Skylar, this little baby who has unexpectedly been dropped into my life, is such a joy.  She is working on three months now!  Earlier today she and I were having a “conversation&rdquo ;.  It is amazing how she will look into my eyes and gurgle all these sounds, almost in answer to my queries.  I can't imagine life without her.  I'm convinced she is an instrument from God, sent to more fulfill my life.  I am a more mellow, and kind, and giving person because of Skylar.  A better person.  And, my friend, to accomplish that is a gift from God.

There is much more that I want to say about God's active work in my life, and will do so in following posts.  I guess, my point is that we all have miracles happening in our lives- even when life is tough.  How we rob ourselves of happiness when we foolishly overlook such divine intervention.

I can't say I have a family of my own to be thankful for, but I am grateful for the family I call mine. I spend time with and talk with obscure relatives-- 3rd, 4th cousins-- quite often compared to others I've discussed family with, most of which haven't met anyone beyond their 1st cousins and perhaps a great uncle or aunt. I could myself blessed to truly have an extended family.

I'm also blessed that I'm starting my job next week. The luster of doing nothing has worn off, now I'm just bored. But only until Tuesday!

I don't remember my own children being as much fun. But, back then, I was so busy trying to be "successful" and really quite intimidated by life in general. I've a more healthy outlook on life now, and thus enjoy most things a lot more.

Tiny little hand! And when those little hands get ahold of your hair and won't let go, you realize these little ones can be strong. And when they get ahold of your glasses....

Now that is extra special, to stay in touch with your cousins. Extended family is important. When I was in College, I thought I did not have time for my family, rarely going home or calling anyone. Obviously, you've got a healthy combination of youth and maturity. Keep it up!

I'd like to think Skylar takes some of her good looks from me, but then I know better. Her mom is really pretty- I'll post a picture of her sometime. And yes, I am aware of your ongoing miracle with your daughter. Not so long ago things seemed bleak, and now she is progressing so well. I'm sure you recognize the miracles in your life everyday.

I would have 2 say my recent miracles would have 2 be my parents coming together after so many years and understanding that i want 2 be a part of both of there lives...but my main miracle each day would be waking 2 see my family each morning...And yes i would have 2 say the baby is sooooooo cute:)

PD,
I am so blessed by your posting. So many go though out life calling out for a great miracles. They seek a miracles and will run all over the world to find one, yet they do not see the miracles in thier life already. God loving us enough to send His son for us alone is a miracle.
I have gotten to behold both my children being born. To see them born, I have to see birth as miracle.
Blessings on you. You will see more miracles in the future.

PD I'm right there with you on how these grand babies are such blessings. That has been our most recent miracle. Keeping the faith in Christ that he would hold us strong enough to endure the long court battle it has taken in order to see our son get time with his child...and for grandad and me too. Tomorrow is the 1st long visit and we are super excited. My son has been inspiration to me in this battle. He has kept his faith that God would see him through and encouraged his dad and me to do the same. Even when the "curve balls" have come flying.

i see.. hmm, know what, you remind me of my father. when we were little he really hated us. i mean, he just doesn't like kids at all. and he can be irritated by simple things. but now, i'm sort of being jealous of my nephews and nieces coz i can sometimes see my father getting along with them pretty well.
