Gulf Shores Ramblings, Day 4
Some semi-random thoughts from the day:
Krys and I arose early to walk the beach together. The waves were gentle and shells abundant, and best of all the talk was good. Upcoming is her Jr. year in College, and she has been a good girl. It's interesting even as she is no longer my "kid", she is becoming more and more a good friend. Maybe this getting older, on the part of my kids, is not so bad.
I sat back on the screened-in porch to enjoy a major thunderstorm. Skies darkened, waves rolled, and the booms of thunder were all around. I also watched as huge bolts of lightning struck in far off seas...or maybe not so far off. I'm not sure why I enjoy such a powerful display of nature; maybe it is the reminder there is much in this world bigger and more powerful, and mysterious than self. And as I sit and soak in the experience, it seems such a rewarding connection with nature.
Today we dined at Lambert's, a great restaurant in this area know for it's "throwed rolls". The food was country and quite good. The rolls are delicious, but the only way to get them is to catch one that is hurled across the dining area by waiters. Sounds strange, but it works! Check out the link.
Tonight we will go to see the new movie about the World Trade Center disaster.
Liberals must be excited that Joe Lieberman was beaten in the Connecticut primary. Actually this will prove a dark moment for the Democratic party, because Lieberman will easily win re-election as an Independent. Now, the Democrats made a very good move in Georgia with the ouster of Cynthia McKinney. You should see some of her pathetic interviews, blaming voter fraud, the media, and electronic voting machines.
Keep on blogging!

I'm glad you had fun at Lambert's. I knew you'd like it.
I am very glad that Lamont beat Lieberman however like you said, Lieberman will probably get the Republican support and win as an Independant. I still support Lamont and I wish him the best.

I just watched a clip about Lambert's on the Food Network, I think it was filmed at the Missouri location though. Glad to hear you're all having a good time :)

I personally am not excited by Lieberman's loss and part of me hopes he wins as an independent, but it does speak to the level of frustration some of us feel with the choice of going to war and continuing a war that wasn't justified from the get-go. I don't hate people who refuse to see this obvious fact, but I do feel sorry for them as well as the men and women who serve willingly over there, and the citizens of Iraq who didn't ask for this or want us there any more. I know, I know. To hell with what they want. We know best. Here's an interesting qestion: If there was an election in Iraq that asked the question about whether they wanted us to leave, I wonder if people like you would respect and be willing to live with and abide by the outcome. I think not, because if you would, the election wouldn't be necessary in the first place. Or have you convinced yourself that the figures that keep coming out about 80% wanting us out and-20% wanting us to stay are continually fabricated by the "liberal media?" Hah.
Throw me a roll. Got any butter?

Lamberts was great. One of the waitresses walked by and "accidentally" spilled a picture of cola in my lap. It was fake, and made for a good laugh.
Lieberman is not a conservative, and I think baqrely a centrist. It should be alarming to those interested in the long-term health of the democratic party that there seems no longer to be room for someone like him. In the Republican party are many moderates, who actually have positions of leadership and influence. Where are the Democrat conservatives?

Food Network?
Mine is probably one of the last homes in America without cable television, a long-term commitment on behalf of our children. On vacation, I've been enjoying many of the cable channels- though not the Food network!

You are right, I think, that America is quite galvanized over politics. But I think George Bush is the factor, for the Democrats so hate him and will do anything and oppose anything to destroy him in any way possible. If they get control of Congress, they will immediately go after him with the greatest of vitriol. It's amazing.

I'd say that was a very smart move on your part as a parent! Of course the smartest for all of us would be no television at all, the major affiliates now air about as much 'trash' as the cable ones. And it's a shame you're not enjoying any of the Food Network, it's really a lot better and informative than most people think :)

Democrat conservatives are a thing of the past. If you are not on the left then you are in the wrong party. Lieberman will still get elected though so its a victory for the Republicans and Democrats. I think there still are a lot of hard-core conservatives in the Republican party though just not as much as far left Democrats.

Reply to: PastorDave Well Dave that happens when a president lies. I seem to remember a bit of vitriol about eight years ago over one of them lying about a blow job. You remember that? Now here we have a guy who either lied or is so incompetent he's put my kids at risk for the next generation. Yeah, I hope they go after him for every damn thing a special prosecuter can come up with. Maybe it'll keep him so busy he won't have time to screw us too much more.
