Found My Legacy
Lately, I've been thinking about my legacy.
It's part of the middle-aged crisis, when you start to wonder if you are going to make a difference in the world. When it is all said and done, "ashes to ashes and dust to dust", for what will I be remembered? I've yet to write the great American novel. Ted Haggard got the church I really wanted to pastor. I thought I'd hike the Appalachian trail, but injured my knee after 6 miles. So, guess I need to shoot for something more attainable.
Here it is.
This guy from Bhopal India has the current record, at 4 inches. I'm dousing my ears with Rogaine, confident I've found my legacy. Boy, that's a relief.

We have to go with what we do best. I would hope you would support me in the endeavor. I know I would support you.

i will support you, but i believe you have more to offer than this..can i just interject motivation to keep looking...perhaps, after all, being a husband, a dad, a grampa and a great friend should be your legacy...i am sure there is more...let me help you discover your self-worth and you can die a happy man...with no ear hair! Please!!!! xoxox

I think ear hair is highly underrated. When groomed properly, it can make you distinguished and can I say- even attractive. To be known as the "gentleman with the ear hair" seems to me a worthwhile goal.

So sorry that I looked at this over my first morning coffee...ick. Last night I laid awake and contemplated a list of what I wanted to achieve in my life. I guess at 45 and starting over it is my own mid-life crisis. In truth, there are a lot of people who do great things but are quickly forgotten. I think men especially need to find a legacy in the arena of their career. All their families really want is their time. If we want to leave a legacy--I think that it comes down to how our memory is carried on by our children and our children's children. Stories told many years later over the Thanksgiving table. While my father and grandfathers never achieved huge success in the world's terms, I remember as a little girl, sitting at the table and listening to them talk and thinking there were no greater men in the world. I still feel that way. I know this was more tongue in cheek--and the ear hair is definitely memorable--but, I would imagine you have been making a difference in the world every single day and just didn't realize it.

Well, you don't want to copy. Go for the longest nose hair legacy instead.

PastorD, I'm highly skeptical your euroamerican genetics will allow adequacy in this competition. I'm with Mimi, go with tried-and-true legacy measures! Sorry.

Ok its ok and pretty manly sir. But I feel its a trivial thing when there could a sea of things which we can do to better humanity like why not visit 1000 orphanages and feed some unworthy person or maybe create a record like being on the knees constantly for a week without a break etc. I think it can even make you a solid blogging Pastor.

Well-Groomed Ear Hair - now that's an oxymoron.

I'm just having fun with the post.
But....
Impacting our families, loving others one at a time, enjoying others- such would be a worthwhile legacy, I would think.
In the workplace, I am resigned that we are all so readily interchangeable. I was talking with a man Sunday who retired from the assembly line at General Motors after 38 years of steady service. Next day, another man was on the line to take his place, and the assembly plant never lost a second. To GM he was simply a means to an end. But, to his family and church, he is "Albert", a great man. There's the key, I think. Your work is really not your legacy- but the difference you make in the lives of others.
Now, suppose a man is drowning. With head underwater, he reaches up to grasp at anything. He grabs a handful of ear hair, and is saved. And, that would be a great legacy.

Longest nose hair? That is worth considering. The receptionist at the local Church of God has a big headstart with this matter. And, same with leg hair.

This is disappointing. I'd like to stand out as unique and memorable. If ear hair must be dismissed, then what? This morning the Today Show featured a family in Turkey who walk on all fours. That's doable, although it gets uncomfortable after awhile. Perhaps I could be the past who does that?

Thank you. I sense that you have tried this, and it did not work for you.

I've tried many of those suggestions, and they seemed not to gain the attention of the legacy makers. Apparently nobility and service are not all that award-worthy to most people. So I'll just keep considering until a good idea comes along. Maybe, longest toenails?

yes i have tried it. But with my leg hairs and only over the winter months when i can wear pants all the time. I got quite a good pelt going last winter, but then my son started swimming lessons and i had to wear a swim suit again. Five lady bics lady and I was smooth as a babes- well you know.
again i wish to success in your desires. I know you of all people can achive any goal to set your mind too.
