Misc. Ramblings Of A Small Mind, Once Again
It's been awhile since I've posted. So, here's some thoughts and things running ever so swiftly through my life:
Probably need to let Someone Else do the creating...
I came across a site which offers a tool to build your own personalized avatar. So I gave it a try, and here's the result. What do you think...Is this guy ready for the job?
A bittersweet day...
The little lady I wrote about in the previous post passed away. I spent the last couple of days ministering to the family and conducting the funeral. She was worn out and had come to the point of truly wanting to move on to a higher realm. Thus I sought to make the sermon a celebration of her life and a challenge to the family to find reason to rejoice. Several members of the family traveled from many states away, and I was surprised to learn that their pastor made the trip to be with them at this difficult time. I was impressed, and asked if he would help with the funeral, an offer he graciously accepted.
The Big Five 0hh...
On December 30 I turn fifty. It's hitting me hard, which my mind finds to be frustrating because I know it's just another birthday. But my heart aches with this quite visible reminder of how brief life truly is, and how small is my tiny corner, and how seemingly futile my part. Help!
Hispanics That I Know...
A local municipality recently passed ordinances requiring that all renters give evidence of their legal status, and also affirming English as the official language. I know it is a smack at the large and seemingly threatening immigrant population. Here's some immigrants I know:
*Tonight I gave a ride home from church for two teens, both hispanic. Why was their mother not available? Because, she works three jobs!
*Our church custodian is a Mexican-American. She works two jobs, attends College full-time, and is a great mother to three children. She is an inspiration to me.
*I got a haircut today from Rosa. She is from El Salvadore, and works about 70 hours per week.
Such people make my community and my life better. I wish this so-called "America First" bunch would leave them, and me, alone.
Movies to See...
It's been awhile since I've been to the theatre. It still hurts to pay 9 bucks for a ticket. But, there's a few that I really want to see:
Apocalypto- a must. I gather from early reviews that it is a significant film.
Borat- mindless, irreverant humor. My kind of movie.
Blood Diamond - I can't believe it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and yet I want to see it.
The Nativity Story - A help to focus upon the true meaning of this season.
Facing The Giants - It's hard to believe a church in Albany, GA made this movie.
Flags Of Our Fathers - This wonderful movie has been around far too long for me to have not seen it.
Happy Feet - I don't know why.

Fifty has come way too quickly. I'd like to think my heart and my mind is much younger. I've got a lot of living to do- far too much to be considered old at this juncture.
Albany- you know, I imagine, they pronounce it "Awl-Bennie"?

Yep...22 more days...22 more days...
Why are all these immigrants around here? Because the American businesses and American public demands it. Our lawns need tending, our factories manned, our children watched, our buildings cleaned, etc. etc. These are hard-working, decent people just wanting what everybody else wants- dignity, a way to support their families. I think we need to leave them alone.

Dear Pastor, First of all let me tell u that u are only one of the few bloggers at tblog whom I love to visit. Secondly I'm back from my exams and it was just fine.
Ok now on ur post. Theavatar u have created is not upto mark seeing ur snap shot and also ur open views. We need something better than that. Good that u have attended the last rites of the little lady whom I'm not aware of as I have not read ur post on her.
Regarding the hispanics thesituation is really pathetic and I hope people adopt some new measures to curb the illegal immigrants rather than putting them away altogether.
Well for ur movies thing, I'm yet to watch those and frankly never been to theater till this point of time.

May God rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant the family the strength to bear this irreparable loss with patience and fortitude.

So far, 50 isn't too bad, (-he says, checking his plaid bermudas and striped shirt for wrinkles, assuming they look fine with the white socks and black shoes.)

50? Old? George Burns was your age in 1946. He lived until 1996.

Did I read you correctly...You have never been to a movie theatre? Well, I guess such has not damaged you culturally. Lots, even most of the stuff from Hollywood today is drivel. Still a quality movie can make a highly worthwhile statement, along the same lines as a good book, drama, or song. I encourage you to open up and give a good movie a try.

I read that myself, somewhere and sometime (I'm getting rather forgetful in my old age) that today's 50 is the equivalent of yesterdays's 30. I do hope it is true. And I do recall reading that my generation can look to living to about 120. That would be fine, if it accompanies a moderate degree of good health.

One challenge for me- it's becoming increasingly difficult to buy a good leisure suit. Where do you get yours?

Oh, I'm sure your next fifty years will be even more enlightening.
What exactly is the reason a municipality feels the need to affirm English as its official language?

I think the resolution is simply a statement, reflecting the community, that it feels the local culture is not being respected by immigrants. It probably carries little, if any, real legal weight.

The reason i wld go with the law to give legal status it helps to find ppl who illegal, this is not aimed at ppl who use legal ways to get in but for ppl who use illegal ways, and also help ppl who may use this thing to get in america and later attack gov.
