Just Call Me Charles Atlas II
I worked out with weights tonight. This was the first time I have done such in thirty years. As I remember, back then it was with free weights. Things have really changed. My friend, Larry, lives in a nice condo which includes a well equipped workout area. I've been dieting for about five weeks and have lost fifteen pounds. But I know I need to get in better physical condition. Larry is a few years older and is very devoted to weights and karate. He helped me to go through a couple of rounds on all the weight machines. I think I can do it on my own next time. He said I need to workout three times per week, doing at least two repetitions of ten on all the machines. We will see...I am wondering how sore I will be tomorrow. Self discipline- if I could only get through life without it!

Al Gore
This guy has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. I know he made a documentary about global warming. If I say too much about it, one of you will challenge me to view it. And before I can view his film, I will have to add a punching bag to my workout routine. But I will say that Gore deserves such an esteem about as much as would the likes of Yassar Arafat. Wait a minute...

3 a.m. Alarm
Cat has been coming into my bedroom, around three in the morning, to wail loudly and repeatedly. I could injure him, and the temptation is present. He thinks he owns me, and my purpose in life is to serve him at his convenience. And it is most likely because we have operated under this understanding for the last ten years.

Let's Break The Law
We have a Super Bowl Party planned after church on Sunday night. It will involve an extremely large television screen. As I understand the matter, we will be breaking the wishes of the NFL and abrogating the law. Oh well, I've been thinking about the need to begin a prison ministry.

A Good Example
Speaking of Larry, he called me early this morning with good news. He was hired for a new job, beginning Monday. He had lost a good paying job the week before Christmas. I have great respect for the way he handled the situation. He went out and found temporary work right away, even though it did not pay as well as he would have liked. He did not complain and did not enter depression. He kept a good attitude, stayed faithful to God and to church, and worked hard at finding a new job. We prayed for him. Today, it all paid off. My hat's off to you, Larry!

You may need to check things out a little before you talk about it, Dave. Al Gore has done more then just his film to get a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

As I understand, he has written a book and helped produce a subsequent film, An Inconvenient Truth, which he has traveled the country and abroad (in SUVs and corporate jets) promoting. What else?

Yeah, first Gore's considered a "sexy movie star" for making a power point presentation and now a Nobel Peace Prize. Regardless of what else he has done besides the film, I think we would have heard about it if he personally ended a war...

As for the NFL thing, the idea is that YOU'LL be making money off THEIR super bowl. Of course, when you think about how much extra business bars are going to get on Sunday, it sounds pretty stupid.

I guess Al Gore is being given credit for seeking to make peace with the environment. Global warming is a very hot topic of the moment. I predict he will win the prize. Maybe he can use the money to buy some solar panels and windmills, and maybe an electric limo? I need to do more thinking about global warming- initially I think it is an overbloated subject drummed up by liberals to promote their social causes. Need to raise taxes, globalize governments and economies, blast conservatives, and interfere more into the personal lives of individuals? Then, global warming is the current attempt to do so.

Do you really think global warming is a ruse even after the world's top scientists unequivocally agree we're doing major damage to our environment?

I think it is real. I question the doomsday scenario they constantly use as an excuse for radical and selective actions. I think third world countries do as much or more harm to the environment than America, and there's little asking for accountability. I think much of global warming is natural, not man-made. I think liberal politicians and celebrities see it as a cause celebre, with little true reasoning- just another opportunity to blast conservatives. And I think many of these so-called scientists are far from objective and disinterested in their observations.

Your weights workout post was inspiring enough for me to look up my gym's operating hours. Then it passed. I think you will have to email me daily updates so I can get motivated. Well done!

I noticed you were posting over on shoutpost. I'm interested in what you think about it. They purport to be a good base for crossposting. Wonder if I could write my blogs on shoutpost, and then easily post them at a couple of other sites- including t-blog of course?

I couldn't believe it when I heard that the NFL was sending out letters to churches that were holding Super Bowl parties! What a crock of poo!

If you get locked up, I'll bake you a cake with a file in it. :)

Why not skip CSI a couple of nights and watch the movie... Then say something about it AFTER you've checked out the research.

Oh, and the reasons Arafat got the award was sound even though he was largely a putz.

Why are you so hateful toward things you deliberately avoid knowing the slightest little bit about? I still don't get it. Are you so afraid you might have been wrong about certain things that you avoid looking into it, and simply snipe at the ideas without finding out about them yourself? Afraid you might have to go through the cathartic stuff you went through regarding racism? Too painful, huh? Geez.

How people have decided to make this issue a "liberal or conservative" debate makes absolutely no sense to me. Maybe you guys WANT the world as we know it to end to prompt Jesus to come back while you're all still walking around. Say it ain't so. Please tell me the rest of us, and our children and grandchildren, don't have to suffer because it's been decided that this is all "in the plan."

Now, you're working out right? Why? Because you've decided it's a good thing to do for you AND your loved ones. You didn't wait till you'd had a heart attack or something worse, did you? It's simply the right thing to do so you've decided to get moving. -Same thing.

Oh and like it or not, thank Al Gore every time you sign on to the web... He didn't invent it (nor did he claim he did) but he was instrumental in making sure the funding was there and was a vocal supporter over the objection of just about all your republican buddies right from the start and every step of the way. You are thankful for the internet(s), aren't you?

The U.S. is responsible for 25% of the crap being pumped into the air. Third world countries should be so ambitious. I liked surrogate's analogy which is a nice microcosm of the global crisis.

Admit it PD, you're being a weenie. Reminds me of my kids when they were little. One glance at a green veggie and "I don't like that"...

Way to go! I've just returned from the Super Bowl get together. Ate a ton of pigs-in-a-blanket. This dieting is hard with all the socializing that goes along with my work. I went out to eat five times last week, all connected with my job. And you can't lose weight going out to eat. So, we start the diet again tomorrow!

I'm "being a weenie"? Now you can call me a lot of things, including invectives and vulgarities. But "weenie" really hits me hard. The real question is how could you be so mean? Weenie- I'll feel injured and insulted for a month. O the pain, the pain.

I am interested in proven statistics on this one. We have Brazil clear-cutting the rain forests for timber and agriculture. The fastest growing economies as well as the largest populations of the world, China and India, are growing exponentially with no regulation and really no outcry from environmentalists. Eastern Europe- much like America from a century before.

I think much of the criticism of America by this crowd comes down to two things: Envy by the rest of the world, and guilt by the liberals within our own country.

In my community, I participate in recycling of my trash and yearly exhaust inspections of my vehicles. The septic tank of my home is tested regularly for environmental conformity. We pay an added tax for runoff from the property. I pick up the trash along the roadway every week. I have been taught to have a strong aversion to littering. So, I think we're most likely ahead of 98% of the world with environmental responsibility.

17 days? Well, I stuck with it for 1. I'll try again. As far as watching the movie: I'm sure it makes some valid points, and raises some justifiable alarms. I have a very hard time believing Al Gore would possibly be objective and apolitical about such a very complicated and difficult issue. He is radical, I think. I have caught that he would like to rush our independence from oil through heavy taxation and mandatory govern-enforced deadlines on industry. Such heavy hand of government is absolutely contrary to my politial beliefs. I want less government, not more. I want personal freedom, and lower taxes. I want the government to leave me alone- not force this environmental agenda upon it's citizens.

Skip CSI? I don't think so.

I want to respond to this challenge, which has come from you a couple of times, that I must thoroughly research a subject before I can intelligently comment. There is not enough time in the day, nor interest on my part, for that to be possible. Some matters perk my interest and spur me to further research and understanding, and some do not. Most everything is a matter of passion for someone, somewhere. But it is unfair to label me as ignorant and unworthy of making a comment simply because I am not deeply knowledgeable of the details of everything. How about you? You often make comments, and sometimes they are enlightening comments, on a variety of subjects. I'll bet you do not do scholarly research on most of these matters. This is sort of a coffee shop conversation. We throw out ideas and thoughts, and we get alternating ideas and thoughts tossed back. Most of it is just surface stuff, and then sometimes something significant is said.

"Why are you so hateful toward things you deliberately avoid knowing the slightest little bit about?" Hateful? Certainly not intended. Let me say that I do not hate Al Gore, nor any environmentalist, nor Arafat, nor anyone or anything else mentioned in this little post.

You think I must watch this guy's movie before commenting on the subject he is selling. You think I do not know even the slightest bit about the environmental debate? I read the news. I keep up with the issues. I am literate, and semi-intelligent. I have a layman's understanding of the matter. Unless you are a bonafide environmental expert, I'd say your viewing of a two-hour propaganda piece does not make you much more of an expert on the subject. Well, you would know more about the movie, but not necessarily the subject.

It is, very much, a liberal/conservative debate. Blame the US. Force subsidies and taxes from us and to the rest of the world. Oil industry bad, environmental activism good. Liberalism good, conservatism bad.

I did watch Farenheit 9/11 last week. And, I may watch Gore's political piece when I get a chance.

How about you? Maybe you could wander over to WorldNetDaily and order some of their literature or videos? Or maybe read a good book tearing down Hilliary Clinton- there's several of those making the rounds right now. Do it in the name of education, having an open mind. Of course not- liberals are by nature objective, right? In reality, you and I have some pretty strong opinions. We'll read and listen, but we most likely will not make a thorough research of every detail of every issue before giving opinion. It's an unfair demand.

Whatever. Why not just say "I'll think what I like, so there!" and then pull your nostrils up with two fingers and blow wind between your lips.

I've read two anti-Hillary books.
