On my private blog, I'm currently going through a series of posts where I talk about eight different things for one month each. The idea is to see how you expressed them, felt them, or even how it was absent from your life on that day. This month has been about love.
While I agree that love is actions and not words, I find it's helped me a lot to sit down and think about how I expressed love or didn't. Or how I felt loved or didn't. In the past month, I've felt calmer and more at ease than I have in a long time. When I first began writing, I talked about a woman I didn't like. I've gone from disliking her to not understanding her. While I predict we'll never be close friends, I don't know her well enough to say that this is a person I hate. I am softer with my children, and instead of finding myself angry, I'm taking more time to try and understand where they are coming from. The biggest source of anger for me has changed from a vast, messed up world that I can't fix, to being those who hurt the people I love.
I'm a long way away from being perfect. I suspect I'll never get there. But I'm not going to let that excuse stop me from trying.
