Review & Comments About Church Website Needed

Mt Tabor Baptist Church  (link)

I am working on the church website, trying to make it attractive and informative.  Obviously there are many people better suited to such a task than myself.  But I got tired of the ragged, dated look of the site, and decided to do what I could to make it better.  And since the good folk at t-Blog are the most discerning blogging community around (mandatory, patented patronizing comment of the day) , I've come to you for assistance.  This is a work in progress, and I will be making changes as we move along.  Please give it a look, check out the different pages, and pass along some feedback.  What is good?  What can be improved?  What needs to be added or deleted?  Do you know of a church website that presents its message well?

Thanks for your thoughtful and constructive criticism.  O.K.-  even less thoughtful and unconstructive comments will be accepted.  I won't like them, but that's alright, you never cared---  Wait, that's a different conversation with a different person.

I'll be checking back and interacting.  Thanks for your help.

I do not want to sound negative, so first off - I love the brightness! ;) The one thing I noticed was the heaviness I felt from the font. Maybe something more sophisticated would be better. A serif font is supposed to be easier on the eyes and looks nice. not sure if this is what you are looking for.

I think you should move the Sunday School and Sevice information on the nav bar under those 4 icons. Then under that, put the address of the church. If you have the time, make a banner with the church on the left side and the name of the church on the right, possibly adding the address info on the banner. One rule of thumb when designing a website is to limit any scrolling, when someone views your page, the entire page should be framed on their monitor with minimum scrolling. The horizontal site navigation bar looks nice there. Hope that helps.

Great. That I can, and will do. This is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for. Thanks!

I don't think I have the ability to make the banner. However, there are several hundred templates available, so I will make a search to see if one will allow me to incorporate a photo of the church into the banner. It is a good idea. Also, the suggestion to minimize the scrolling is very good. I'll change the font, as gentlegir suggests. Thanks!

First ~ Happy Thanksgiving PastorDave,
to you and your family!

As for your blog ~ I do not know how to do any of this stuff. However, I missed your 'previous blogs of interest' ~ then they found them way down on the bottom of the right side.

Seems like I've seen blogs with 'items' on either side of the main posting area. Am I totally confusing you here? Yep, thought so. Sorry!

Anyway if I find any like that I'll refer you to those sites, or perhaps Inkspector might have further ideas.

Good luck on your 'tweaking' of your blog.
I thought it was nice just like it was, but I do not like change very well ~ *grin

*seeya!

Adding porn would attract more visitors. Otherwise it looks fine. You don't want to go overboard on graphics or have a site that's difficult to navigate or is hard on the eyes.

Christian porn? Now, that's a novel idea. I think I'll stay away from that one. Of course, now I'll probably show up in search engines under the subject, and attract an interesting group of new readers and comments. Some of your friends?

Per your request, I have returned ... I like the church site very much, just as it is! Perhaps you have made some changes as per recommendations by others (I missed first time around) ~ but I do think it looks very nice!

*now it will easy for me to google the location so I can find it when I pass through georgia on my way to Alabama. :)

What part of Alabama are you from? I have friends in Palmetto, west of Birmingham. I go to Orange Beach, when I can Lord willing!

*sorry I missed the church site first time ~ d'oh!

You didn't mention Skylar in your bio...as in "and One lovely wonderful grandaughter...

on the youth ministry page, the writing goes past the white section and into the blue.

other than that, i just personally don't like the flower banner, but it is perfect for georgia.

Actually, there is a site that bills itself as the #1 Christian porn website. I guess they go around handing out bibles at "adult" conventions and do talks about porn addiction. It seems to be an in-your-face approach to a subject rarely discussed in church.

Yeah, I met one of those guys while coming out of a theatre the other day. .... Just kidding! Sounds like a strange ministry. But, you are right, porn addiction is very much a part of our world, but rarely discussed in church.

3 good suggestions. How could I leave out Skylar? With just a bit of prodding, I'd put her picture as the banner of the site. I can't, I won't, but I would like to!

Palmetto, Alabama? I am familiar with Palmetto, GA, and have been there many times. Orange Beach- been there. Motels, beaches, tourists. Next door is Gulf Shores- a bit more laid back. You know, traveling from Michigan to Orange Beach, you COULD pass through my town. It would not be easy, but you could. And should.

And I plan on doing just that when I head south.
At this time I don't have a date set, but when I do, I'll be in touch with you. Did you think I was just kidding when I threatened to stop by your church?

I thought the website was nice for what it is, but I expect you'll be adding layer upon layer of pages about various activities and church members as time goes on. I'm thinking an interactive game or two might be nice. "PastorDave's maze from Hell," could be interesting.
