Deep Thoughts About Petticoat Junction

Lately, I have been thinking a bit about Petticoat Junction.

First of all, that Uncle Joe is a lazy guy.  He is nice and jovial alright, but he basically sits around and lets Kate do all the work, while he stuffs his face and spouts off one-liners.  It is time for him to get to work or get out.

And, how about those girls bathing in the water tower?  Naked.  This cannot be good for the young people who turn to this show looking for wholesome entertainment.  I think Kate needs to spend less time dusting and more time worrying about what her girls are doing up in that tower.

Steve Elliott, the crop duster, keeps flying over the water tower, ogling those teenage girls.  Uncle Joe could have gotten up from his nap and secured a Restraining Order.  Most likely, this would have prevented the future marriage of Steve and Billy Jo, the youngest of the trio.

Sam Drucker needs to wake up.  Kate is simply a big flirt.  She has no interest in this man.  There is a reason why I cannot find a picture of the two of them together, anywhere.  Sam works hard and seems to be a nice guy.  And he is probably the richest man in town.  I am sure, somewhere in Hooterville, is a woman deserving of Sam's love.  And it is not that diva Kate.

What's with the dog running around without a leash?  His name, creatively, is "dog".  He is quite lucky not to get crushed by a speeding train.

Come ride the little train that is rollin' down the track to the Junction.
Forget about your cares, it is time to relax at the Junction.
Lotsa curves, you bet 'N even more when you get to the Junction,
Petticoat Junction!
There's a little hotel called the Shady Rest at the Junction,
Petticoat Junction!
It is run by Kate, come and be her guest at the Junction,
Petticoat Junction!
And that's Uncle Joe, he's a-movin' kinda slow at the Junction,
Petticoat Junction!

too funny :)
I was flipping channels the other day and told my 6 yr old, "Oh, I used to watch this when I was a kid, it was cool" and then we watched about 5-6 minutes of. Katie looks at me with her wide-eyes and I looked at her... and changed the channel. It was a Shirley Temple movie and the girl was being tortured, by today's standards. Ye gads. Funny how things change - in that case, for the better :) ... I think. At least, for kid's programming!

Yes. Green Acres. It was set in Hooterville, same town as Petticoat Junction. Mr. Drucker, Floyd Smoot the engineer. Mr. Kimbell. I'm thinking he was the guy who killed his wife on another show. And Drucker went on to write some books about economics. And my favorite character from Green Acres was Ebb, the handyman. Reminds me of self.

Shirley Temple. I've got to confess I never liked her. She was far too sugary for little boys. Now, if she ever made a guest appearance on Spanky & Our Gang, then I would have watched her.

I'm not sure the children's programming is that much better. I watch Barnie & Friends with my grandaughter, and sometimes go into convusions as Barney and Baby Bop do a duet. Then there is Teletubbies, and everybody knows they are secret weapon to destroy America. And who can forget Clifford The Big Red Dog. Actually, I like Clifford.

It is interesting, and humorous, how shows that seemed so good back then seem so corny now. Perhaps we think ourselves too sophisticated. I'd still rather watch Green Acres than Rosie, and Beverly Hillbillies than Bart Simpson.

Regarding my 'nice voice' ~ ahem ...

I can only sing on the computer, otherwise everyone else runs away covering their ears!

Thanks for allowing me to 'sing along' ~ it was fun!
