How The Lord Provided A Free Sausage Biscuit
I took a Sunday off to go see my mom, which meant driving across the state on Sunday morning.
Anyway, along the way I stopped at a fast food restaurant for breakfast. A couple of ladies were standing in line in front of me, obviously dressed for church. We chatted a bit, and they were exuding fine Christianity in all matters of deportment. However, something happened in the kitchen and the orders were backing up. The ladies began to fret- it was almost time for Sunday School, and they had yet to receive their sausage biscuits. The little girl across the counter became the brunt of their anxiety, and of course she could do nothing to speed the process. I simply watched and chuckled within. Although I was in back of the line, apparently what I ordered was readily available, and so I proceeded to pick up my order in front of the incredulous women. One of them, ruffled and redfaced, said she guessed she would just have to go teach Sunday School without having breakfast. Her ample girth told me she could probably afford to skip several meals. I smiled and told her the Lord probably would not mind if she was a little late for church. She gazed at me with a crazed look suggesting I should be glad she did not have a knife and fork in hand, stomped out to her car, and drove away. As I watched her slow-roll a stop sign, I was pretty sure that in ten minutes she would be hugging necks and telling of how she had suffered for the Lord at Hardees.
I asked the girl across the counter if I could have the lady's sandwich? She had already paid for it.

I used to waitress and I can tell you from experience that the sunday morning crowd and the wednesday evening crowd were the hardest to please, and the stingiest with the tips. at least I got several stacks of chick-tracs to get me through.
thanks for the encouraging words on my blog. as I have said before, I wish I knew more pastors like you.

As always, hilarious.
I wonder if the ladies had ever been to a FF restaraunt on a Sunday AM? Surely they know that they will be backed up and to allow an extra few minutes? Alternately, Jimmy Dean makes a great heat in your microwave sausage bisquit, or you could just grab a nutrigrain bar or a piece of toast on the way out ... maybe the Lord didn't want them to plan ahead and they were walking in faith!

Chick tracts? I have not seen one of those for a long, long time.
Actually I see the value in the use of tracts. What is passed along needs to be of high quality and with a gentle message. And, for goodness sake, if you are going to give a gospel tract to a waitress then leave a good tip with it.
We need to treat waitresses, and other persons in service positions, with the highest of respect. I'm thinking some people have jobs or home situations where they get kicked around a lot, and so the way they retaliate is to kick the dog and the waitress. Sad.

In conservative churches, where I choose to frequent, many believe that Sunday is to be reserved as a day of rest and worship. Yet our congregants tend to pile into the restaurants before and after church to gorge. In reality, we are forcing others to work on Sunday in order to tend to our wishes. The very same Christians who would frown upon personally working a job on Sunday, or fishing on Sunday, and some to even cook a meal or attend a sporting event- have no problem forcing some poor waitress or convenience store clerk to miss church and rest in order to cater to their lifestyle. It seems to me there is a bit of hypocrisy in this.

I've noticed lots of bad-tempered Sunday morning drivers, too. Who would Jesus cut off to get to church?

Only you!!! I can just picture you asking for the ladies food. It makes me smile. Thanks, I need one today. I think ggirl has a good point too. Get the bumperstickers printed and send them out! And don't forget the "check-out" lanes. My heels are scarred from others impatience.

Forgive my heresy, but if the Lord provided a free sandwich to you, isn't it possible Jesus came up with all the fish and loaves by asking the waitress for them when the Sunday morning crowd became impatient?? (Hmmm. Look there. Lightning bolts are striking rather close to the house.) ;)

It appears to me that those free sausage sandwiches that the Lord provided could be habit forming on your next request I suggest you ask that they be cholesterol free. You know every thing good to you is not good for you. Bonn appetite

Something about Hardees is inherently slow, isn't it? I've never gotten "fast" food there - but it sure is tasty!
