First of all, according to e, this gives whole new meaning to the name "Dog, the Bounty Hunter."
Weird timing on her moving away, isn't it? New dog and a new home all in the same week?
e suggests mailing something to her "return service reqested," Mail it to the old address, hope it will be forwarded and you should receive a notification of the final delivery address, even if the letter is refused.
Worth a try.

What surrogate says sounds like a good idea!
I was thinking about 'the guy' and how was he going to get the dog if the woman had moved away ~ does he know where she lives? Can he still get the dog?
Oh yes, Happy Birthday to Skylar!
I posted the picture of her on my blog where she 'blinks' at the camera when told to smile.
She is such a sweetie!
((hugs))

Was she renting the last place? I assume so because of how quickly she was able to move. If so, maybe you can find the forwarding address from the landlord.
Did someone move into her old place already? If so, maybe she left a forwarding address there or they know where she moved.
Do you know anybody at any of the utilities? The cable guy, water, gas or electric? Or how about the newspaper delivery person or even the mail carrier. If so, you might be able to see if she forwarded her service to a new address. If they trust you and your intentions, you might be able to get the new address.
It does seem very strange that this person was able to move so quickly and that this guy who contacted you knew so much, but was not aware that she had moved or where she had moved to.
At least it is a ray of hope. I pray that it leads you to your dog.

Perhaps a woman could call her saying it's XYZ Grocery store, and she's won 200.00 from the drawing, and 'we' would like to deliver it, and ask why you prefer shopping at the XYZ stores.
If she thinks she's going to get money, might well give the address!

Your plan sounds like a good one. What a mean person to steal someone else's dog, I mean the local animal shelter has to have plenty of dogs she could adopt.
Hope Skylar had a great birthday!

well. if you called her, then reverse directory her phone number...and it should come up with a street address. the best one i think is whitepages dot com
it's worth a try. maybe they will have her last address still, but if she got a new number it is worth a try.
on the other hand, is your wife a packrat, and do you have vet records, or the purchase receipt from the dog? if you show those to the police, that is enough evidence for them to contact her in person and see if she has the dog.

you can do one of those pubic records searches for a few bucks, but, since the move was so recent, the public records likely won't be much help. i would see if you she was renter and find out if the landlord knows how to reach her. just say you are a neighbor and you need to reach her about urgent personal matter, which is the truth.
Or, pay the spooky guy a little downpayment to track her down :-)

I gotta be honest. This just feels like a shakedown. I can see all this trouble being "manufactured" in order to get a reward. There will end up being some sort of extra trouble, and he'll need more money to make it happen. I hope I'm wrong and that this is all just an overreaction on my part.

My suggestion? Payment upon delivery. I hope your pup makes his way home again. Maybe the "return service requested" thing will work.

Makes sense. This guy called me again yesterday, just to see how things are going. The more I think about it, I'm convinced he has stumbled along and is simply trying to get a little money while pretending to know something. I told him- bring my dog, and I'll pay, no questions asked.

Most likely you are right. I got a call from a "certified" pet detective, complete with a website and references and news releases. He wants $895 to come to town and do his work. I don't think so. I'll continue to give it my best shot.

I did the records search for twenty bucks, got a phone number but no address. Likely the incomplete info is because of the recent move. I'll have to wait a few weeks, and try again, and hopefully secure an address. Then I will check it out. Likely this is simply the name of an innocent person, passed along by some guy who has no idea where my dog may be, but hoping to get some quick cash.

Strange indeed. This is Monday morning, for me a natural time of skepticism and just a bit of gloom, and as I sit here I have the idea this guy honestly knows nothing about my dog- just a crude effort to profit on my sad situation. I'll continue to check it out for a while longer, with a wary eye.

I've a great photo of Skylar at he birthday party that I intend to post...when I get the time. These simple matters of technology tend to take far too much time with me.

Actually I am a tad familiar with the site- I've checked it out a time or two. It even pinpoints such neighbors in my area. Luckily, I've yet to be targeted. Dog thieves, however, deserve a big neon sign with this moniker.

The animal shelter is closed on Mondays, but tomorrow I will again be checking with them. In my heart, I'm almost sure someone has taken my dog. This person knows he is someone's lost pet. He/she sadly does not comprehend how much pain he is bringing about. Sad.

Lying? Deception? You are asking me to participlate in such a ruse? That sounds like a good idea. Let's see, who will be my accomplice? Maybe there would be a fellow t-blogger or two, with lots of minutes on the cell phones and a willingness to participate in a devious plot...

Good questions. What they do is make, rather plain, that my source is highly suspect. He gave me a phone number of this woman, but only with some prompting. He does not know her name, nor where she lived, nor where she has moved. It sounds as if he simply gave me the phone number of some acquaintance, just because of the pressure of the moment. Now he is hoping I may just find my dog, and he can take some credit for trying to help me, and hopefully I will give him some money out of gratitude. Yep, that sounds about like reality. Reality is no fun.

I saw the picture of Skylar. I have a new one, from the party, that I plan to post sometime soon.
Still not dog. Somebody has him, hopefully in a warm home where he gets lots of attention. Probably they have a soft heart for pets. However, this person is quite callous in attitude toward others. Surely he/she knows have heart-wrenching it is to lose a beloved pet. I awakened this morning, thinking he was at the foot of my bed, his usual place. I don't take my morning walks anymore, because he was an integral part of that ritual, and it is now too sad.

I guess it is time for me to move on to other subjects of blogging. I've a ton of visits to make to the posts of my fellow bloggers, interesting stuff to read and comment on. And, I want to pursue an ongoing conversaition with a nice atheist girl, the subject of my counter-blog, DaveToo. Thanks for hanging in here with me. I'll let you know if Bailey comes along.

On the off chance this guy knows what he's talking about, call the vets in your area and give them Bailey's description. See if anyone has brought him in and then leave your name and number, just incase he's brought in, in the future.
I still recommend posting at yorkie talk.

David, call your nephew Alex and give him the phone number of the woman and maybe with his connections at AT&T he can scope it out for you. Call me and I'll give you his cell phone and his email address if you don't have it. He was once able to perform a miracle for your mother one of the times when she moved. It's worth a try.
