My High School Graduate
My son Brock, 2008 High School Graduate!
And so he has embarked upon adulthood. The future is before him, huge and mysterious. He's got it all figured out: 20 years in the military, followed by a second career in law enforcement. He will let the Marines pay for his College education. Oh, and he will find somewhere to settle down more exciting than this place! He assures me he will do a lot of things differently than myself. And, I wish him well. It must be nice to be 18-years-old and have life by the tail!
Once I had three little kids. With this event it is official, they are all gone, replaced by adults. I look back and see so much I could have done differently and better. And I wonder how they turned out so well. Brock has grown into a quiet and assured person with an independent streak. This is true with his apparel for graduation- jeans and sneakers. I would have insisted upon otherwise, had I known. There is still some Little Boy in him. I hope it stays.
I feel proud.

He's a big kid. Don't upset him, After Basic he'll be able to clean your clock if you deliver a lousy sermon.

What a wonderful future. The Lyle family is one blessed bunch!!! Three great kids...turned adults. W O W. How fast time has flown. Congratulations on the last fledgeling leaving the net/oops/ nest. You and Deb have all rights to be proud. We are all proud for you too. Good job! And Well Done! How exciting to B's age and have so much to look toward in the coming years. He seems to have a good sense of who he is and what he wants.
Now Grand Pa and Ma can sit back and enjoy their little Skylar. She'll be there to comfort your long lonely days ahead.

Just beautiful PastorDave. He'll make a mighty fine Soldier, a level headed Police Officer and a great man.

A rewind to life would be nice. I'd wear it out in a hurry. I'm learning, slowly, to not beat myself up so much for mistakes and regrets of the past. Just learn and move on!

He is a big kid, like his grandfather. And notice his buzz haircut- something he has insisted upon for the last several years. I think I could still whip him, because I'm willing to fight dirty.

Yes, life does move quickly. Life is good. I have few regrets, and look forward to the next chapter. It's kind of exciting to wonder where I'll be and what I'll be doing ten years from now.

Getting a kid through High School and onto the brink of adulthood is quite an achievement. Of my 3, Brock has been the smoothest journey.

Like me? The boy has a bumper sticker, "Hate Me. I'm Republican!". He's gunho military, something very different from my perspective as a teen, although close to my views of the present. He'd never admit it, but I think you are right.

You're a smart kid! Thanks for the kind words. Like most parent-teen connections, we sometimes have a "love you but cannot stand you" relationship. It will be interesting to see how he has changed after 14 weeks of boot camp in the Marines.

Who knows, except God of course, what the future holds for my son. Reality may be very different from his plans. I believe God often laughs at our careful plans. But, for him to be a fine man, that's all I really want.
