Help Santa Find A Good Cell Phone

It will not be long until once again I will sit upon Santa’s lap.  He will ask the prerequisites about me being a good boy.  Of course I am!  And I’m working now to be prepared for the follow-up.

“And what do you want for Christmas, young man?”

Certainly not that old brown paper bag, containing various fruit and nuts and a stick of candy.  I am thinking hard about what I want for Christmas.  Peace on earth… Obama’s conversion to conservatism…?&nbs p; This time it is rather selfish and material.

I think I want a t-Mobile Wing.  It is a cell phone/PDA with Windows Mobile 6 and a touch screen.  I have not been able to actually see one at a t-Mobile store because the item has been discontinued!  However, it is still provided by ATT under a different name, the Tilt.  What I think I would like about this particular phone is the ability to access the web, including the downloading of files.  And I would like to be able to save text, including Bible text, for reading at my convenience.  I have a large amount of Bible study software on my Palm Tungsten t-3, and the providers generously offer free conversion to Windows Mobile.

I am not real smart with cell phones.  I’ve always had just the basic.

Here’s the details of the phone & plan:
*
t-Mobile Wing - $99, with two year commitment.  This comes with a $50 rebate, so it will end up costing $49.
*
600 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends - $40
*
Unlimited web access - $20

How about it?  Is this a good deal, will it take care of my needs/wants?  Maybe there is a better plan, a better phone?  I’m counting on some genuine technophiles around here to help me out.

Who knows, but maybe Santa would say:  “Look Buddy, that phone you’re after is a piece of junk.  What you need is a good bb gun….”

The wing is a good choice PD, you have been a good boy and I know that Santa will put it under the tree for you. Now about Obama?

hmmm. I'd personally go with another Palm product. And up here, the unlimited internet is $30 a month, the 700 minute plan i have of shared minutes is 69.99 a month.

See, I really like the palms when they run on windows software. i did NOT like the palm os version at all.

I have a windows Palm Treo, two of the kids have the newer version, the Palm Centro, which is a bit smaller and I am not crazy about, but which I can use easily.

The thing about my Treo is that I have to date: dropped it in a mud puddle (one night drying out with battery removed), dropped it in snow (brushed it off), dropped it numerous times on cement getting out of car when it fell out of my pocket (picked it up), and its two years old. I also like that it plugs right into my laptop. I also like that I can take out the card and insert it into the card reader I bought at wally world for 9.99 and transfer pics, ebooks, music etc right onto it in about 2 minutes.

as soon as i can upgrade, i'm getting....drum roll....another palm treo LOLOL.

I appreciate your opinion that I have been a good little boy. Now as far as the conversion of our upcoming president to political/social conservatism, seems I recall from the recesses of history lectures a Prime Minister of England long ago making just that transition. It could happen!

"discretionary spending"
I think that is another name for "get fired & go to jail". Periodically, some preachers indeed do take this route to unemployment.

Hey, be kind to fractal. She is one of the few around here who tends to look at the world in a similar way as myself. She's rare and valuable, at least to this blogger!

My goodness, but seems to me you pay too much for cellular service. Check out wirefly(dot)com- they have some great rates. So does amazon(dot)com. I probably will not buy from a local dealer, although Sams Club offers some pretty good deals.

I like the treo 750 & 800. But I need a large and easily readable screen, and the treo is just too small. Doubly so for the Centro.

I have a fear that I'll finally get exactly what I want, and it will prove to be nothing that I really need. Perhaps I'll continue to use a phone, 99% of the time, simply to make calls. And then, two years from now, will gladly go back to a simple phone. That tends to be the way things work. Last Christmas I got myself a ZEN player, which is a high-end mp3 player. Now, 11 months later, it sits aside and I use an old store-brand player for my needs!

The President of the US now has his own treasure of 100 BILLION of "discretionary" spending, that will not be accounted for! Also his own army, and BO wants his own army...how close to tyranny are we? That is the start!!!
